[Review] Kelly Rowland Makes A Bad Choice With Returning Single, "Dumb"

Kelly Rowland returns with (potentially) the first offering from her fifth album. Y'all excited?

Titled Dumb, its name is actually an accurate descriptor of how I feel about this release. Why? Well, first of all, this sound is out. Fancy paved the way for it to go mainstream LAST YEAR. But today, in 2015, it already sounds horribly dated. And if didn't work for the more established Britney Spears and Pretty Girls, it's not going to work for Kelendria.

[Listen] Destiny's Child Regroup for Michelle Williams' "Say Yes"

Yes, you better believe I stay promoting Michelle Williams- even if no one cares!

To get some of you heathens noticing, the Queen has summoned her Destiny's Child backing vocalists to help her out on new song Say Yes. But don't think 'Chelle has jumped ship and gone back to the booty poppin' music of her group in search of a hit.  Nope, this lady stays praising Jesus, re-imagining a Nigerian gospel song for this outing.

The fact that I don't like it means nothing. To paraphrase Anderson Cooper: "This is Michelle Williams' world and we're just living in it"!

[Spam Post] Live Performances From Black Girls Rock, The EMAs and The X-Factor

There has been a whole host of live events that I haven't managed to cover on the blog- most notably Black Girls Rock and the European Music Awards. I did consider just letting the events float by, undocumented, but decided you guys deserve more! So here goes!

[Music Video] Fantasia (Feat. Kelly Rowland & Missy Elliot): "Without Me"

Without Me music video still

I was not expecting such levels of seduction from Fantasia, but it looks like serial smut peddler Kelly Rowland -who co-stars in the video, alongside Missy Elliot- has been spreading her saucy gospel amongst her peers.

I'm only joking! Despite the dark and seedy vibe of both the music and the visuals, the reality is, Without Me is actually a feisty break-up track. Co-written by the singer, the song speaks of an ungrateful and lying ex who, if one reads between the lines, might have been gay ("Boy, I know the real you (ga, ga, yay, ga)"). Well, he better have been because being gay should never be used as a slur, Franny!

I'm actually surprised at how much I like Without Me. This and Lose to Win might just have swayed me into picking up her latest album, Side Effects of You. Now if only Kelly and Franny could have a word with Michelle Williams, we might be able to get Destiny's Child mark 2 up and running.

[New Music] Take A Listen to Beyonce And Kelly Rowland's Guest Vocals On The-Dream's New Album, "IV Play"!

Having been responsible for creating some of our Divas' biggest hits- Single Ladies /Umbrella/Obsessed, to name but a few- it's small wonder super-producer The-Dream was able to rope in some big names for his fourth album, IV Play.

The only two Divas making an appearance though, are DC sisters-in-arms, Beyonce and Kelly Rowland- wait, no love for Michelle? Lucky for us, both songs have been released on to the net as a precursor to the album's May 28th release, so no need to wait till then to hear them!

[Music Video] Kelly Rowland "Kisses Down Low"

kelly rowland blonde hair

Kelly Rowland makes a smart move by finally toning down the smut with the video for new single, Kisses Down Low. Previous singles, Motivation and Ice, had seen Kelly overtly embrace her sexuality on camera, but her liberation came at the expense of the success of those songs as their accompanying videos were relegated to Rnb channels and late night showings. Impediments to mainstream success that Kisses hopefully won't have to deal with.

[Watch] 2012 Vh1 Divas Donna Summer Tribute

Disco legend Donna Summers was remembered at the 2012 VH1 Divas Live concert with a medley of her greatest hits. Having the honour of performing said classics fell to Divas Kelly Rowland, Keri Hilson and -honorary diva- Adam Lambert.

The tribute was opened by Destiny's Child alumni Kelly Rowland, and though she may have been present and accounted for during "Bad Girls", her voice certainly was not. I've never heard her sound this bad. Her runs were off, she was out of time in places, and her voice was missing the power and the flexibility that she demonstrated during her Mariah Carey tribute back in February [here]. I have no idea what was going on here, but when Keri Hilson sounds better than you, you've got a problem.

Watch: Bet Honours Mariah Carey, While Kelly Rowland And Patti LaBelle Pay Musical Tribute

mariah carey bet honours crying

The Black Entertainment Television ( BET) Honours are designed to promote and celebrate the achievements of African Americans across a number of fields. The show, in its fifth year, attracted the presence of not only musical royalty, like Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin, but also that of the political kind, with none other than Michelle Obama making an appearance!

This year's musical honoraries included the Diva with the 5 Octave range, Mariah Carey. Not only did she receive an award for her contribution to music, but the lucky lady received two musical performances: one from Destiny's Child member, Kelly Rowland, and the other from musical legend Patti Labelle.

[ NOTE: The show was filmed last month but only screened this week .]

Kelly rowland- Vocal Profile/ Range

Vocal Type: Mezzo-Soprano
Vocal Range:3 octaves  C3- C6
Vocal Pluses: Her voice really shines in its strong, weighty midrange belt that can be made to sound even more impressive with the application of her vibrato. She is also able to execute complex vocal runs.
Vocal Negatives: Weaker low range that is reached via bad technique. The upper extremities of the chest register can sometimes sound harsh,  rough and unpolished.
